Why you should Adopt a cat.

There has never been a better or more important time to think about adopting a pet. The isolation that many have felt since the outbreak of the pandemic has led to more and more people wanting the company of a loyal and loving animal in their lives. But, what are the advantages of adopting rather than buying? Well, there are many.

Apart from the obvious delight at welcoming a new member in to your family, when you adopt a cat you are essentially ‘rescuing’ it – giving it a happy new future – and that it one of the most rewarding and compassionate things you will ever do. Don’t forget, as well, that cats are very intelligent animals and they seem to instinctively know that you have rescued them and will repay you with love, trust and loyalty, bringing untold moments of happiness to you and your family.

By adopting you are also putting the cats’ health and welfare first. Unfortunately, the huge rise in the number of people wanting to own a pet during lockdown has led to a similar rise in unscrupulous dealers, breeding cats purely for profit with no thought for their wellbeing. A cat that you adopt from a sanctuary or our cat café will already have been neutered, vet-checked, de-wormed and de-flea’d prior to adoption. Kittens will only be homed when they are old enough, and fully weaned and, most importantly, they will have been looked after with love. This means that you will be able to take the time to find your ‘perfect match’ because we take the time to assess the needs and personality of each cat and do our utmost to ensure that you are matched with the most suitable pet for your family and lifestyle. You also get unrivalled post-adoption support and advice.

On top of all of this, remember that by adopting a cat you are actually doing your bit to help more than one animal. Not only are you giving your adopted cat a wonderful loving new home but you are also freeing up a space for another cat in need.

Finally, not that being a genuine cat lover is about money, but adopting is often cheaper than buying and you know that your adoption donation will go towards helping the animals (neutering, vaccinations, vet bills, food, litter, bedding etc) and not to line someone’s pocket. That way you are also helping to stop illegal pet dealers who cheat to avoid the law whilst the animals suffer.

When it comes down to it, if you genuinely love animals then adoption is the best, most compassionate choice and the rewards it will bring you are immeasurable. There is no better feeling in the world than knowing that you have brought love, happiness and security to a beautiful little cat’s life.
